The 305s were built in the early sixties for the Liverpool Street to Enfield services. There were two distinctive sub sets, the 305/1 and the 305/2.

The original 305/1 sets were formed of three cars and were identifiable by having large windows between the passenger entrance doors.

The 305/2 sets were formed of four cars and had the two smaller windows between the passenger entrance doors.

Both types of set were refurbished in the eighties and the four car sets were seen with only three cars.

In later years they were moved to the Manchester area. Withdrawn in the early noughties.
