CLASS 201 (6-S) SIX CAR DEMU In BR Blue & Grey Livery Price £1075.00 |
History Built in the late fifties for
the Hastings route, these units were unique in having a narrow body to fit
through some narrow tunnels on that route. This original batch were to the
57’ short frame, Hence the “S” Withdrawn in the mid eighties. We are
able to produce the Hastings units (Both the long and short wheel base versions) as three, four and five car units as

History The next batch of “Hastings”
units were built on the standard 64’ frame, hence the “L” for long. Also withdrawn in the mid eighties. |

History The final batch of “Hastings”
units were also built on the standard long frame, however one of the Trailer
Second Open coaches were replaced with a buffet car. The buffet cars were
removed towards the end of their lives but retained their "B"“status, eg

History On withdrawl
of the majority of the Hastings units in 1986 unit
1011 was retained for use as a spare unit on the non-electrified Ashford
line. Reduced to four coaches, in 1987 the unit was repainted into Heritage
green with full yellow ends and was renumbered 203001. The unit was finally
withdrawn in 1990. |

History Six of these units were formed
by matching a “thin” power car and trailer second open from a Hastings unit
with a “standard” width driving trailer from a 2-EPB. Very quickly they were
given the nickname of tadpoles. They were used until the early eighties. |

History The last of the southern region
DEMU sets, built in 1962, these were also narrower than the standard bodies
at 9” and were known as Oxted units as they were primarily placed on this
route. They ended their days on both this route and the Ashford to Hastings
route. |
